How cool are Lemon Jelly? In a move that would have maybe elicited a mild raised eyebrow of curiosity two years ago, the band played a children's matinee on Saturday: you could only get in if you had an under-12 with you. With shared ambition, and possibly different expectations, Gemma and I lined up at 11:00 to open up a new chapter of father-daughter activity. Clowns, ballons galore, face painting... and two DJs in Flintstone costumes manning the decks. So as first shows go, Gemma had a good one. Two short sets, including Nice Weather for Ducks, with an admission from the band that it was the oddest gig they ever played. And to top it all off, all proceeds went to a children's charity. Next week: nu metal? alt.country? Detroit garage? Humpty Dumpty?

Grandad John, extra-refreshed from his bumped up flight from Montreal, arrived Wednesday morning for a few weeks in London and around the island. This afternoon we all packed up to the British Museum and checked out the Albrecht Durer exhibit. Perhaps more exciting for Gemma, we followed this was a leisurely lunch at Manderin Kitchen, where noodles, monkfish, chicken and asparagus were eagerly chomped down with some chopstick flurry.
And it may be wishful thinking, but it looks like Gemma's starting to appreciate The Simpsons.
